What is the House History Portfolio?

The House History Portfolio is a curated archive of your home’s past, bringing together selected historical records, folded map prints and explanatory research notes in a beautifully presented keepsake box.

Rather than transforming the research into a written narrative, the Portfolio focuses on the evidence itself. It is designed for those who want to explore the original records, maps and discoveries behind their home’s history, with light guidance to help understand what records are included.

Why choose the House History Portfolio?

If you love historic documents, maps and records, the House History Portfolio offers a lovely way to preserve your home’s story.

This option is ideal for homeowners who want a tangible collection of the key evidence connected to their property, rather than a finished written report. It may include records showing former residents, household structures, changes in land use, ownership clues, historic boundaries, local context and unexpected discoveries connected to the house. Presented in a premium keepsake box, the Portfolio is particularly suited to period homeowners, history lovers, and thoughtful gift-buyers who want something tactile, meaningful and carefully researched.

What’s always included:

  • A curated physical portfolio of historical records connected to your home
  • Printed copies of selected key records, such as census entries, directory listings, electoral records, ownership clues or valuation records, depending on what survives
  • Premium quality historic map prints, and a printed timeline of former occupants or key moments in the property’s history (where suitable records are available)
  • An A5 saddle-stitched explanatory notes booklet to guide you through the records included, also containing transcribed newspaper snippets associated with the property and its former occupants or owners
  • Presentation in a premium keepsake box, designed to store the records, maps and notes together

Presented as:

A curated archive-style collection of printed historical records, folded map prints and explanatory notes, presented together in a premium keepsake box.

This product does not include a full written narrative report, or wall art print. If you would prefer your home’s history interpreted and written as a finished story, one of the Printed House History options may be more suitable.

Research may draw on sources such as:

  • Census returns and household records
  • Electoral registers
  • Historic maps and property boundaries
  • Trade directories and address records
  • Local and national newspapers
  • Land tax, valuation and ownership records
  • Probate records and wills
  • Parish records where relevant
  • Archive catalogue references
  • Estate, institutional or specialist records where available
  • Other record collections relevant to your home, location and former occupants

How it works

Every House History Portfolio begins with a Feasibility Check, where we establish which records survive for your address and confirm whether there is enough suitable material to create a meaningful portfolio.

When you order the House History Portfolio, the Feasibility Check is automatically added to your basket as Step 1. If the records suggest that a different service would be more suitable, we’ll let you know and you’ll have the option to change your order.

In the unlikely event that there is not enough surviving material to complete a House History Portfolio, or any of our other house history services, you will receive a full refund, minus the cost of the Feasibility Check (£30).
